Modesto, CA – Modesto Youth Soccer Association-Ajax United (MYSA-Ajax) is pleased to announce the hiring of Carlos Zavala to serve as its new Director of Coaching and Executive Director.

 

Carlos grew up playing competitive soccer in Orange County, CA, under renowned coaches Clyde Best and Norm Jackson.  He attended Saddleback High School in Santa Ana, CA and later played for California State University, Los Angeles (NCAA Division 1) for four years (1988-1991). There, Carlos played under Mexican National Team head coach, Leonardo Cuellar. Upon completion of his collegiate career, Carlos was recruited to play for Club Deportivo Toluca of the Mexican first division. Additionally, from 1992-2004 he played for several professional teams in the US and was a part of four National Championship teams. Carlos played for the Rochester Rhinos when they won the 1999 US Open Cup and was subsequently inducted into the Rochester Rhinos Hall of Fame. 

 

Carlos is a USSF A licensed coach with significant experience in coaching youth soccer, facilitating coach and parent education programs, and managing youth soccer development clubs. As the Director of Coaching and Executive Director of MYSA-Ajax, Carlos will oversee the club’s vibrant recreation program (which includes over 3000 players), as well its highly competitive program (which includes over 500 players), and its burgeoning local adult league. Carlos will also continue developing MYSA-Ajax’s partnership with the city of Modesto to ensure the longevity of quality youth soccer in the Central Valley. “I am extremely excited to work for such a great organization.  I look forward to working with the community and MYSA-Ajax members.  During my last visit, I got a taste of what Modesto is all about and I am excited to bring my family to be a part of this great town.  I strongly believe that MYSA-Ajax has the potential to be one of the best clubs in the state and I will work my hardest to accomplish this goal.” Carlos added.

 

 

Along with his MYSA-Ajax responsibilities, Carlos will be working in conjunction with the Olympic Development Program, ID2 Program, the PDP program, and with Mexican First Division agents and talent scouts.
