Spring Recreational Program

A fun, team-based program where players of all levels can build skills, gain confidence, and enjoy the game through weekly practices and weekend matches.

U6-U17 SPRING RECREATIONAL PROGRAM

Our Spring Program offers a fun, development-focused environment for boys and girls of all skill levels, without the pressure of competitive play. Players build confidence and soccer fundamentals in a team setting.

Age groups follow the calendar year as guided by US Soccer and FIFA standards. Each group includes two birth years.


PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

Play with Friends – Modesto Youth Soccer Association / Ajax United allows teammate requests so players can enjoy the season alongside classmates and friends.

Excellent Facilities – All games take place on high-quality fields at Mary Grogan.

U6 & U8 Teams

MYSA Tournament Rules & Information

Tournament Operations

  • MYSA Staff and referees will be stationed between Fields 2, 5, and 6.
  • Tournament Director: MYSA Staff
  • Referee Assignor: Joe Pires

Player & Coach Check-In

  • Check-in will take place 10 minutes prior to each game at the field. 
  • Non-carded individuals are not permitted on the player sideline.
  • Only one head coach and one assistant coach (with valid passes) are allowed on the sideline.

Equipment Rules (Casts, Braces, Jewelry)

  • Hard casts are not allowed.
  • Soft casts/braces must be approved by the referee or assignor before each game.
  • Jewelry is strictly prohibited (no exceptions).
  • All decisions are made with player safety as the top priority.

Brackets & Team Placement

  • Teams will be grouped based on regular season standings:
    • Top teams form one bracket, next teams form another, etc.
  • Home team responsibilities:
    • Change jerseys or wear pinnies if colors conflict

Provide game balls

Game Lengths

  • U10 / U12
    • 20-minute halves (5-minute halftime)
    • Finals/Consolation: 25-minute halves
  • U14 / U17
    • 25-minute halves (5-minute halftime)
    • Finals/Consolation: 30-minute halves
  • Finals & Consolation Games:
    • Must have a winner
    • Ties decided by Kicks from the Mark (no overtime)

 Substitutions

  • Unlimited substitutions allowed at referee discretion during stoppages.

Ejections & Discipline

  • Red card = 1 game suspension
  • Each red card = -2 points
  • Poor parent/sideline behavior = -2 points (or more)

Standings & Advancement

  • Standings updated after game cards are submitted.
  • Bracket winners advance to finals
  • 3rd & 4th place teams play a consolation match

10-Point Scoring System

  • Win: 6 points + 1 per goal (max 3)
  • Tie: 3 points + 1 per goal (max 3)
  • Loss: 0 points + 1 per goal (max 3)
  • Shutout Bonus: +1 point

Point Deductions

  • Red card (player/coach): -2 points each
  • Sideline misconduct: -2 points or more
  • Excessive goal differential penalties:
    • +9 goal margin = -1 point
    • +10 = -2 points
    • +11 = -3 points (and continues)

Forfeits

A forfeit occurs if:

  • Team does not show
  • Not enough players:
    • U10: 5 players
    • U12: 6 players
    • U14/U17: 7 players
  • No coach present

Scoring:

  • Forfeit = 3-0 result (10 points awarded)
  • If game already exceeds +3 goal difference, score stands
  • Double forfeit = 0 points for both teams

Bye = treated as a forfeit (10 points awarded)

Tie Breakers

  1. Goal differential
  2. Head-to-head result
  3. Goals scored
  4. Kicks from the Mark (5 players, then sudden death)

Awards

  • Trophies/awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams

Protests & Disputes

  • No protests allowed
  • All game results are final once game cards are signed

Conduct & Discipline

  • Failure to follow rules may result in sanctions or removal from the tournament

Costume Rules (Special Event Play)

  1. Player numbers must be clearly visible
  2. Goalkeeper must be distinguishable
  3. Team uniforms must match in color/style
  4. Halloween makeup and hair color allowed
  5. No jewelry or long nails
  6. No accessories or props on the field (allowed off-field only)
  7. No hard casts
  8. Bring standard uniforms (home team changes if needed)
  9. Shin guards and cleats required
  10. Tournament Director/Field Marshal has final say on all issues
